It was always the minhag that you brought a gift to the Navi (prophet). Custom to give money to Tzadikei Emes (truly righteous Jew) which is given to the poor and basic upkeep of their home. Beware of phony "mekubalim" seeking donations whose office is staffed by women. Sometimes Tzadikim go "out of this world" during davening. Kedushis Levi admired the "Mittler Rebbe" from Chabad. Great things are accomplished in this world when Tzaddikim eat.
