Based on Rav Kook's Oros, Section Oros Yisrael, Chapter 4, Se'if 3 and Teshuvos Mishpat Kohen 124 on the Gemarah in Menachos 65a.
How is Am Yisrael (the Jewish nation) completely different from all other nations? What motivates individuals to join together and become a nation, and how is Am Yisrael different in the way that it became a nation? The concepts of "shutvus" (partnership) and "tzibur" (community). Why did the Chachamim's (sages) victory over the Tzedukim (a sect that did not believe in the Oral Torah) in the matter of the korban tamid (permanent daily offering) result in an eight-day holiday? Knesses (congregation) Yisrael is so much more than merely a sports team or a profit-driven partnership. The Jewish Nation is a divine creation, from which individuals draw their life force. A Jew cannot disengage himself from Knesses Yisrael without cutting off his sould from the communal soul.
