The source of all ahavas Yisrael (love of other Jews) is a supernal level, and goes beyone just being kind and nice to others. It remains with us through good and bad. The segulah atzmis (essential inner quality) of the Jewish nation can never change. In the same way that a child always remains the parent's child, our essential inner quality remains with us forever, unlike, for example, a person who has been elected to a particular office or position. Is our love for another merely a matter of taste, of us liking the same things, or does it stem from the root of the Jewish nation? Anshei lev veru'ach - those of [great] heart and spirit who have a deep love for other Jews and go to great lengths to defend them.
