Reb Areleh had severe stomach problems his whole life because he constantly fasted. Reb Arele's family was successful until a fire burned down his father's store. Every time Reb Areleh had money troubles, money would appear in his pocket. They used to daven shacharis for 2.5 to 3 hours daily. His Rebbe said that anyone who even looks at Reb Areleh will seek to do teshuvah. When Reb Areleh left Europe for Israel he wanted to become a sofer.
