Learning Torah lishma (for its own sake) enriches the Jewish People immeasurably. We can fight our enemies as long as our bucherim (young men) are learning Torah. There are Roshei Yeshiva (heads of Yeshivah) who do not have a clue what is happening "on the street" today. When you learn Torah in the name of a talmid chacham (learned person), the lips of that Torah scholar move in the grave with you.
