We were created to achieve deveikus (attachment) to Hashem, who is infinite. Our innate nature to desire progress stems from our desire to attach to the Infinite One. True avodas Hashem (Divine service) requires us to add something new, daily. Before a person dies, we only regret our failure to achieve a higher level of ruchnius (spirituality), not gashmius (physicality).
